Lignin Sulfonate

Lignin is produced as a by-product of the paper industry. Lignin has a long history of use on roads as a method for dust control and surface stabilization. Lignin road products are derived from the lignin that naturally binds cellulose fibers together to give trees and plants firmness. This product is a safe and economical alternative to petroleum- and salt-based products, which are also sometimes applied to road surfaces.

Pros: Lignin is an environmentally friendly product. It's non-caustic and not harmful to plants or animals. It is well-suited for a variety of uses, such as parking lots, driveways, and road shoulders, where pavement is too costly, and dust conditions become intolerable. Lignin has natural adhesive properties, so it binds itself to dust particles.

Cons: When lignin is applied, it is a sticky substance for a short period of time. If driven on, it may adhere to vehicles but can be washed off with soap and water. If there is heavy rain shortly after application, it may partially wash away. M&K does everything to ensure the weather will not affect your application. We will not spray if the weather indicates overly wet conditions.

Magnesium Chloride:

Magnesium chloride is a hygroscopic salt that absorbs moisture from the air and makes the road's surface damp when it settles. It creates a moisture barrier that bonds the soil particles together, preventing them from becoming airborne.

Pros: Is less corrosive than calcium chloride. It is a lower-cost alternative for dust control treatment.

Cons: Magnesium has a slowly corrosive nature. It can leach into the soil and eventually damage plants. If it is a dry, hot summer, the product does not work as well as it needs moisture to activate.
